Like everyone else, I watched last night’s debate from the edge of my seat. I even got up and did an uncharacteristic happy dance at a couple of points where the Harris punches all but decked her unworthy opponent. I knew Harris would lay him low, and I am glad for it. But now it is the next day, and there is something I think needs saying. I will let Lenormand do all the talking today:
I have seen enough election cycles to know that becoming president requires some serious finessing of the details. This time around, we’ve got the bull in the china shop, 45, who wouldn’t even know the meaning of the word. Harris has mastered finesse as the fine art she knows it to be. There is danger, though, in the practicing of this art form, and Harris would do well to take care. I am not the only one who noticed what seemed to be a pivot to the right in Harris’ answers to policy questions. I am not naive, and nor are you. But I did think a good question to ask of my cards is what this rightward shift is about. Let’s look at the answer in depth.
The first thing I did was decide which card I would use as Significator, or focus card. I chose Crossroads, because it is the card for choices; also, it is the card for shifts and changes, for alternative routes. That is the card you see in the center of the top horizontal line. The cards in that line will give us an overview of the answer they will then proceed to flesh out:
Bouquet / Ship / Crossroads / Older Woman / Heart
The (Bouquet) is the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, which is to say, the presidency itself. In order to win it, to move up in the race standings (Ship) Harris (Older Woman) has had to make some policy pivots (Crossroads) in order to win the votes of undecideds as well as old-style Republicans. She must make them like (Heart) her.
Next, we move to the first vertical line, which will give us some background about how this decision came to be:
Bouquet / Child / Tower / Ring
Remember that Bouquet is the presidency. There are absolutely different, novel (Child) approaches that Harris will bring to the job, but government (Tower) is slow-moving, and the electorate, writ large, feels most comfortable with what feels familiar (Ring.) In order to win the presidency, Harris cannot look like too much of a renegade, especially as her very self is automatically perceived that way, as she is a woman and a woman of color.
The second vertical line elaborates on this:
Ship / Coffin / Snake / Stork
To move forward (Ship) with ideas that would be perceived as TOO transformative (Coffin) would be problematic (Snake) for Harris. She needed to find a better way (Stork.) You know the expression, “I love that for her.”? Well, I hate that for her, but politics is its own game with its own rules. “You’ve gotta pay to play.”
The center line will make this situation crystal clear, as it always does, no matter the situation:
Crossroads / Scythe / Rider / Sun
The decision (Scythe) to pivot (Crossroads) right a bit sends a necessary message (Rider) and ultimately will cause the outcome she wants (Sun) which is the November win.
The fourth vertical line will tell us something more about the result of this pivot:
Older Woman / Younger Woman / Older Man / Garden
The (Older Woman) is Harris, of course. Her primary constituency will be women, and there will be tons of younger ones, especially now that the Swifties have been lifted onboard (Younger Woman). The (Older Man) represents all the old-style Republicans and undecideds who will also come onboard. The (Garden) is “the people,” and Harris’ appeal is broadening, as it needs to do if she is to win.
More detail comes in the fifth vertical:
Heart / Clover / Letter / Fox
The trick, of course, is for Harris to keep all of her base who have been so ardent in their support from the beginning (Heart/Clover) while getting these other, more tenuous votes (Letter.) It is a balancing act that requires finesse and expertise (Fox) and Harris has already demonstrated that she has both, while her opponent flounders.
Over to the left is a three card postscript, offering some last words on this campaign maneuver:
Scales / Fish / Bear
(Scales) is the extra card I have added to the Lenormand system, and it is perfect here. The balance Harris must achieve is delicate. It is also a boss move that will bring in a ton of money, as Fish/Bear imply nothing less than a “rolling in dough” momentum.
As for me….I will have to hold my nose around some of this. I wish Harris had been more vocal in concern for the people of Gaza; I wish she’d mentioned the….overpolicing of Black people; there are lots of things I wish she’d mentioned. But again, I get it. The needle moves slowly. I am still convinced that it will move forward with Harris, and that we will be metaphorically bombed back to the Stone Age if her opponent were to again take the reins. He won’t.
Amen and Ase,
Erika

I agree with your sentiments about the debate (and love your readings! I follow you on YT; you and Marianne of Revealing Light Tarot are my go-tos 🤓).
One thing that people forget is that while Harris is a presidential candidate, she is still the VP and Biden is her boss for the next few months. As much as she needs to court certain demographics and intersectionalities to become the president, she also can't overtly go against her boss at this time (such as Gaza). She has barely gotten some distance from the "she planned a coup with Pelosi) perception.
Same goes for her planned policies, especially since some of them run counter to Biden's. For example, I read an article a few weeks ago saying that the AIPAC people are understanding that the Harris administration will be different. I also suspect that Netanahyu sees the writing on the wall, too. He'd better enjoy the military stuff being sent to Israel because changes are probably coming.
I think your perspective here is right on target. I am pleased with her performance and think things will work. While I too have a list of issues including Gaza and overpolicing of indigenous, Latino, and Black communities, I think it was a good choice of theirs not to go there for this first debate - her job was to show his incompetence and by contrast her Presidentialness. Lots of folks who were former Trumpers I know were talking about that she deserved the white house immediately right after! If there's a next one it will be quite interesting. Will you be doing a reading for the VP debate as well? It should be quite interesting.
